About Colonial Kids for a Cause

Colonial Kids for a Cause LemonAid Stand is a group of philanthropic Fort Worth children who have for the past eight years convened during the Colonial Golf Tournament to help raise money for various local charities through an amazing larger-than-life LemonAid stand! The children run this show, with minimal help from parents. This is an invaluable experience for the children in what it means to give back to their community and how to start and run a "business." The Colonial Kids have raised over $175,000 for local charities since 2010. Every year, the children gather and listen to a handful of non-profit charities stories and they vote to see who they will support for the upcoming year. This year, the Kids of Colonial Kids for a Cause are pleased to request your support as they raise awareness and funds for the amazing Starpoint School.

The Starpoint School at TCU is a school for children, ages 6-11, with learning differences. Starpoint helps students build their academic strengths, develop positive attitudes and prepare them for educational advancement. However; Starpoint can be out of reach for some families, because of the cost of the school’s individualized and innovative programs

Ron Watson came to TCU in 1982 as the Chairman of the Department of Art & Art History. In the thirty years that Ron was a member of the faculty and chair he made significant contributions to the School by leading us through NASAD accreditation and bringing to reality a contemporary art gallery amongst many other things. We are sad to note that Ron passed away recently after a long battle with cancer.

As a way to honor Ron and his exceptional contribution to the TCU School of Art and Fort Worth, a group of alumni and friends have come together to purchase one of Ron’s final works to become a part of the University’s permanent collection. The artwork that is purchased will be displayed inside the Moudy North building.

• Continue to provide teacher/administrator trainings and implementation fidelity that’s affordable

• Travel costs for consultations, professional development, data collection, etc.
• Pay publication fees for the research manuscripts submitted and accepted
• Deepening the understanding about the impact of unstructured, outdoor play on stress (assessing hair cortisol), body fat % using bio-electrical impedance scales; physical activity levels using accelerometers; motor competence (using the KTK), and strength and neuromuscular control (using MPOT) and social-emotional skills (using xSEL).

Since 1949, the School for Classical & Contemporary Dance (SCCDance) has been an integral part of TCU where students pursue the BFA in Ballet, Modern Dance or Ballet and Modern Dance. The Texas Christian University’s Men’s Lacrosse Team was founded in 1983 by a group of students who all shared the same passion for TCU academics, athletics and the game of lacrosse. After a brief hiatus, this team was revived by a group of students who shared the same initial passions and wanted to commit to the process of producing very competitive TCU lacrosse teams that ultimately competes for multiple championships.

TCU currently competes in the MCLA, or the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association. The MCLA is a national organization of non-NCAA, men’s college lacrosse programs. The MCLA oversees game play and conducts national championships for over 200 teams in ten conferences throughout the United States and Canada. The MCLA provides a governing structure much like the NCAA, with eligibility rules, All-Americans and a national tournament to decide national champions in both Divisions I and II. TCU is a Division I member of the Lone Star Alliance Conference, along with SMU, Texas, OU, Texas Tech, and A&M among others.

The TCU team will be comprised of 40 players from all across the nation, has a close association with the university, and operates a $40,000+ annual budget. As a university athletic club program, donations and sponsors from corporations and individual who are alumni and friends of the Horned Frogs Nation are incredibly important to our continued success. Here at TCU, we are a school built on a foundation of championships. This year we welcome another talented freshman class to join our already strong subgroup of returning players to take the program to the next level of performance with championships on the horizon.

Below are specific, impacting allocations of your gift. Please know that your gift helps our dedicated faculty empower the next generation of salespeople and business leaders.

• HORNED FROG INTERNSHIPS: Funds will go to student stipends for an on-campus, high-impact internship with the Center, which offers critical skills training such as: lead-gen, professional selling, online marketing, social media management, digital design, videography, and principles of business development.
• TRAVEL FUNDS: Funds will be allocated to support students’ out-of-city internships, industry interviews, sales competitions, and conference gatherings (e.g., "Dreamforce - Salesforce Conference"). Too often, highly talented students are forced to pass opportunities due to cost prohibitive travel. Your gift will enable students to expand their professional reach and elevate their early-entry career positioning.
• SKILLS TRAINING: Funds will go toward entry fees for sales competitions and various "boot camps," that offer accelerated learning with live selling challenges. Funds will also go toward "nano-degrees," which are accelerated skills development courses offered from elite institutions and management consulting programs. These skills training opportunities often focus on high-level technological training (e.g., data analytics for sales professionals) that are transferable to any career. Along with the Certificate in Consultative Selling offered by the Center, these added skills training opportunities create a distinguishing, competitive advantage for our graduating students.
• PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATES: We aim for all of our sales students to enter industry with certifications in the following: Salesforce, Advanced Google Analytics, Python (code), and R (code). These certifications can be cost prohibitive for students, and your gift will enable every sales student to enter the marketplace with critical, immediately applicable knowledge and a competitive advantage. The future of sales involves technological training that incorporates data science, analytics, and high-level CRM. We look forward to ensuring our students are prepared, trainable, and ready for a dynamic, technologically-infused career to supplement their exceptional interpersonal skills.
• SCHOLARSHIPS: Top sales students will receive performance and merit-based acknowledgment for their work ethic, follow-through, and prospective value in the marketplace. Scholarships are a form of early stage investing in the career and future of precocious talent. Scholarships have an economic impact and a long-term ROI. Students will more seamlessly enter the marketplace and achieve optimal, highly-remunerative positions. As with any sales role, all stakeholders will benefit. Though not able to host the annual Leap Frog event this year, KinderFrogs still needs your support to provide our littlest Horned Frogs with much needed scholarships and therapies, as well as important learning experiences for College of Education students.

The TCU Ex-Bandsmen is a way for alumni to engage with past TCU band members and connect them together. Involvement with the organization includes activities and events, as well as supporting the current band needs in a variety of ways.

What are my options when donating to TCU to benefit the TCU Band?

• A contribution to the Ex-Bandsmen Excellence Fund will go towards the current support of the TCU Band for events such as receptions after concerts, meals after band practice, Band Hall of Fame plaques and other alumni events.
• A contribution to the Jim and Wyn Jacobsen Band Fund will support the band now and for the future. This endowment fund was started in 1998 in honor of Jim Jacobsen (aka Prof), former TCU Band Director, and his wife, Wyn. The fund has grown to over $200,000 and generates about $10,000 - $12,000 a year in distributions to the TCU Band. These distributions are for the discretionary use of the Director of Bands and have benefitted the Band in many different ways over the years - from helping to buy instruments, computer equipment, the production of CD’s, special performances, and special events for band members.

It is our goal to raise $100,000 in gifts and pledges to endow a named scholarship at TCU to celebrate the life and memory of Marcia Masenda Mack ’97. Pledges can be paid over a five-year period. Marcia Masenda Mack, of Round Rock, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2021; age 45. A devoted wife, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend, she was born in Harare, Zimbabwe to Hope and Solomon Masenda. Marcia graduated from Denton High School in Denton, Texas in 1993 where she excelled as a student, a cheerleader, and became proficient in Spanish. After graduating high school, she enrolled at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. During her years at TCU she continued to excel as a student of history and English and as a cheerleader. At TCU she developed her love of history and devotion for football. She was an avid fan of the TCU Horned Frogs. Go Frogs!

She began her career working at TCU working tirelessly raising funds for the school she loved. Marcia then became a highly successful sales representative in the pharmaceutical field. After several years as a sales rep, Marcia ventured out on her own and became owner and creative director for La Fete Chic, an event planning business.  

Marcia was a wonderful friend. Her love for others and her family is admirable. She hosted countless parties, weddings, and showers for her friends and family. Her vivacious personality, keen sense of humor, and giving spirit will be missed by many.

On December 8, 2012, Marcia married the love of her life Darrel Mack in Austin, Texas. She and Darrel shared a love of movies, food, and dogs.  

Even though Marcia was taken too soon, she lived an extraordinary life surrounded by people who adored her. Left to cherish her life is her close-knit family, a sprawling extended family, and a huge network of relatives and friends.

Dr. Phil Hartman Director’s Fund for Excellence

Several years ago, a number of pre-health alumni made gifts that allowed us to start a programming fund for students in Phil’s honor. This is an endowed fund that allows us to directly support students in the pre-health program. We are hoping to grow the fund in honor of Phil to better position us to continue his legacy at TCU. Student Research Support (School of Medicine Scholarly Pursuit and Thesis Program for Student Research)
Every student will complete a Scholarly Pursuit and Thesis (SPT) that is integrated throughout all four years of their Burnett School studies. The SPT allows students to acquire a skill set of evidence-based approaches to basic and clinical research. Funding sends students to research conferences to present and collaborate around findings, and offsets the expense of research work.

Student Wellbeing Fund (Burnett School of Medicine THRIVE Wellness Program)
This fund supports the wellness platform (programs, coaching, events) for Burnett School students. We all know we need to care for ourselves in order to care for others. This balance is at the heart of our student wellness programming. Gifts help ensure our students thrive during their medical school experience.

Greg Treviño Memorial Scholarship

Greg Treviño began his TCU career as a student in 1991. He hit the ground running. He was an Orientation Student Assistant, Vice President of the Student Body in charge of programming, and a myriad of other positions that changed individuals and the campus community for the better.

Following graduation in 1995, Greg worked several years in the "corporate world," but was excited to return to campus as a member of the TCU Alumni Office Staff. By 2000, Greg had joined the Intercultural and Inclusiveness Office. He loved every minute he was there, making a difference in the lives of every student that passed through his door.

In a serious car accident on the evening of May 17, 2008, Greg died on May 27th. This scholarship was established to honor Greg, his character and his legacy.

TCU Sports Clubs

Sport Clubs are recognized student organizations whose members wish to increase their involvement in a particular sport and compete at a higher level. Most current clubs compete in an organized local or regional league against other colleges and Universities. The student members create, administer and govern the clubs themselves, which provides them an opportunity to develop and enhance not only their athletic skills, but also their leadership and organizational skills.

Kay completed her Master of Social Work Degree in 1994. After attending Empowered to Connect Parent Training, Kay pursued TBRI Certification in 2012, training with the late and beloved, Dr. Karyn Purvis. She devoted her professional life to the foster and adoptive community of Kansas City, specializing in infant and early childhood mental health. She was devoted to supporting families as they learned how to help their children feel safe, seen, heard and valued.

Additionally, she trained countless families and professionals through the Kansas Post Adoption Resource Center, RE: Conference and other trainings in the community.

This fund has been established in her memory to be awarded to Kansas City area professionals who pursue TBRI training and continue Kay’s legacy.

She was a dear friend to many. Above all, Kay had a passionate faith in Jesus Christ that informed and inspired everything she did. Her beautiful smile, bright eyes and genuine faith are greatly missed.

A New Narrative for College Mental Health

Four key objectives that every campus counseling center should obtain

In 2019, Dr. Eric Wood founded TCU's Comprehensive Collaborative Care Model. Within 3 years, the student counseling center rose to the rank of #4 Best Student Support and Counseling Services by the Princeton Review. The counseling center also managed an unprecedent rise in the demand for mental health services without requiring the university to spend significant amounts of money, or engaging in an expensive hiring blitz for new staff. Furthermore, Dr. Wood has trained over 100 universities and colleges in various aspects of his service delivery model.

Inspired by gracious donors, TCU's Counseling & Mental Health Center is proud to release Dr. Wood's seminal eBook, A New Narrative for College Mental Health: Four key objectives that every campus counseling center should obtain. This book highlights data-points and national trends, while detailing how collaborations with community and campus partners can significantly increase the capacity of any campus counseling center. 100% of the proceeds will help students receive specialize mental health services on campus.

Burnett School Student Opportunity Fund

The Student Opportunity Gap

The Burnett School is committed to admitting students from diverse backgrounds in the belief that the composition of its student body should mirror our community. More than a third of our medical students identify in at least one diversity domain: first-generation to attend college, student workers who supported family before age 18, graduates of a rural or designated high school, members of the LGBTQ+ community, or persons of color. These talented and resilient students overcame multiple obstacles to achieve their dream of attending medical school, yet some of these same factors continue to limit their ability to capitalize on all the experiences available to them during their time at the Burnett School.

Extracurricular activities are a necessary component of success, but their accompanying expense isn’t covered by tuition or scholarships. One example is that selective residency programs value students who have experienced “away rotations” during their final year of medical school. Additionally, attendance at medical conferences and participation in national student organizations give students a broadened professional network and the opportunity to hone leadership skills. Local service and outreach projects empower current students to give back, and to bond with the community they will serve as physicians. Global outreach gives hands-on experience and a unique intercultural understanding of healthcare.

Maximize the Burnett School Experience

The Burnett School Student Opportunity Fund addresses these inequities by providing access to extracurricular experiences that are academically enriching and critical to building the skills that acclaimed residency programs require. The Student Opportunity Fund may subsidize travel, accommodations and fees to attend medical or research conferences, cover expenses to participate in community outreach or education programs, or underwrite “away rotations” at hospitals and clinics that host invited students preparing to apply for their residency match. In every case, the Fund will broaden a student’s experience and assist in their journey to become the empathetic and compassionate physician that patients and families need.

The Burnett School estimates that the average cost is $1500 per student, per experience. Eligible students must apply for support to a committee comprised of faculty leaders and co-chaired by the Assistant Dean of Students and Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Burnett School.

Campus Recreation & Wellness Promotion employs over 200 student workers. Part of the Department’s mission is to provide leadership and growth opportunities to students. This includes gaining certifications related to career growth, attendance at National or Regional Conferences, or participation in extramural sports tournaments. These student experiences are supported through a student development fund established through various gifts.

The Anatomage Table is the most technologically advanced 3D anatomy visualization system for anatomy and physiology education and is being adopted by the world’s leading health sciences, nursing, and medical schools. The Anatomage Table allows our students to learn on the only fully segmented real human 3D anatomy system in the world. Harris College students can visualize anatomy exactly as they would on a fresh cadaver. Individual structures are reconstructed in accurate 3D, resulting in an unprecedented level of real accurate anatomy, dissectible in 3D. Anatomy is presented as a fully interactive life-sized touch screen experience. The Table allows for exploration and learning of human anatomy beyond what any cadaver could offer.

As we all recognize, the Anatomage Table is a game-changer in anatomical education, providing an immersive and interactive learning experience for our students. Currently, with only one in Harris College, we are limited to how many students can utilize this impactful piece of technology. Our goal is to acquire an additional Anatomage Table specifically for Harris College students learning in the Bass building, and would contribute significantly to the anatomy courses in Nursing and Nurse Anesthesia.

To make this vision a reality, we are challenging YOU, the Harris College Board of Visitors, to lead the charge on a targeted fundraising campaign. We’ve set an ambitious goal to raise the necessary funds ($80,000) to acquire the Anatomage Table by the close of 2023.

Thank you for donating to the TCU Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development TBRI® Practitioner Training Award in memory of Callie Rhoads Lackey. Callie was a beloved TBRI® Practitioner and TBRI® champion. She was an alumna of Texas Christian University (TCU) and held Master’s degrees from both New York University (NYU) and the University of North Florida.

After bringing a child into her family through international adoption, Callie began her search for parenting strategies to help her child who had experienced much trauma. Her search led her back to her alma mater, TCU, and the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development (KPICD). After completing TBRI® Practitioner Training, Callie realized she was meant to help more children than her son through TBRI®. Together with her husband, Karl, Callie started by meeting with adoptive and foster parents. The idea for Hope Street was birthed around her parents’ kitchen table one Christmas and evolved into a foundation through much prayer and struggle. By September 2021, Hope Street was training professionals throughout Jacksonville, FL serving in sectors such as the juvenile justice system, the foster care system, and Duval county school system - in the methods and practices of TBRI®.

Callie’s parents, Marsha and Vic Rhoads, have established this award as a way to continue her legacy. “Callie loved Jesus and she was a much-loved daughter, sister, wife, mom, and friend,” Marsha and Vic wrote. “She believed TBRI® was the method for bringing healing and hope to broken families. She is forever loved and deeply missed. Her essence moves forward in each of us.”

The TBRI® Practitioner Training Award in memory of Callie Rhoads Lackey will allow future TBRI Practitioners to follow in Callie’s footsteps. KPICD Rees-Jones Director, Dr. Danica Knight, said, “Callie’s tenacity and spirit made her a true TBRI Champion. Her personal passion for TBRI and Trauma-Informed Care has transformed countless lives, and continues to inspire the work happening in Florida and around the US. She is dearly missed by all of us at KPICD, and we are honored to continue her legacy by supporting efforts to create trauma-informed systems of care. We are so grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Rhoads for establishing this award.”

Ed Landreth Hall Renovation

Project Overview & Deliverables

TCU is undertaking a comprehensive renovation of the Ed Landreth Hall and Auditorium to establish a world-class creative center for students, faculty and staff in the College of Fine Arts. Situated at the north corner of South University Drive and West Cantey Street, this facility will feature state-of-the-art rehearsal spaces, classrooms, theatres and other essential amenities to enhance the award-winning Department of Theatre, School for Classical & Contemporary Dance (SCCDance) and School of Music. The completion date for the renovation is yet to be set, though it is estimated for 2027.

Named after E.A. Landreth, a TCU Trustee from 1940 to 1960, the 79,300 square-foot facility was completed in 1948 and is the oldest building on campus to not have undergone any significant improvements. This renovation is integral to the future success of the College of Fine Arts and TCU’s commitment to strengthen our academic profile and reputation to advance artistic and creative expression among students, faculty and staff.

• Expansion for Growth: Additional classrooms and faculty offices to accommodate growth in the theatre and music programs, College of Fine Arts and the university as a whole.
• Specialized Spaces: New costume studio, construction space, black box theatre, musical theatre dance studio, design lab, computer lab and outdoor stage.
• Enhancements to Theatre: Redesigned Jerita Foley Buschman Theatre with increased wing space, proscenium, fly tower, orchestra pit and larger seating, plus, acoustical treatment for improved sound.
• Student-Focused Facilities: Redesigned and expanded dressing rooms, restrooms, green room/student lounge and rehearsal spaces.
• New Technology: New/upgraded technology in classrooms and theatres, recording/film studio for music and theatre (dependent on additional fundraising).
• Storage and Practical Facilities: Additional storage for equipment, instruments, props and a construction space for set building and painting.
• Community Impact: The new and renovated performance and rehearsal spaces will enhance our ability to further establish community partners and host a variety of performing groups on our campus in a way that is not possible in the hall’s current capacity.

The project is primarily financed by TCU, which allows philanthropic efforts on behalf of the college to continue to prioritize enhanced student, program, faculty and technology needs. With that in mind, the building can provide an array of recognition opportunities for those making leadership gifts supporting any of these priorities during its construction period.
