Anema Joins Volleyball Staff as Assistant Coach

He comes to Fort Worth after six seasons at Liberty

FORT WORTH – Head coach Jason Williams has named Brett Anema as the new assistant coach for TCU volleyball.

"We are so blessed to have added Brett to the staff," Williams said. "He is bringing a wealth of knowledge as a player and a coach, but more importantly his character and integrity are unmatched. He immediately makes us better in and out of the gym and I am excited to see the impact he has for the program."

Anema spent the last six seasons at Liberty and has been their associate head coach since 2020. He also served as the recruiting coordinator with the Lady Flames, where he brought in two of the top recruiting classes in program history.

Since joining the Liberty coaching staff, the Lady Flames have posted two 20-win seasons, won an Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) regular-season title and have made three appearances to the NIVC, reaching the Elite Eight in 2019.

He has overseen the development of four different All-Conference middle blockers while at Liberty. Liberty has finished top 25 nationally in blocks per set numerous times, most recently finishing No. 13 in 2021 with 2.74 blocks per set. They also led the ASUN in blocks per set and opponent hitting percentage in 2022.

While serving as recruiting coordinator, Anema brought in a top 60 recruiting class in the nation in 2020 by Prep Volleyball. Along with the 2020 class, his 2019 class was given High Honorable Mention by Prep Volleyball as well.

Prior to working at Liberty, Anema served as a volunteer assistant coach at Texas A&M during the 2017 season where he assisted with scouting opponents. He also served as the head JV coach for JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and the head girls volleyball coach for TStreet Volleyball Club.

Before starting his coaching career, Anema played professional volleyball overseas for Schuttorf 09 Volleyball Team from 2015-2016.

Anema was a three-year starter at Concordia University Irvine from 2013-2015 where he won the NAIA National Championship in 2013. He was also named an NAIA All-American and the MAMVIC Conference Player of the Year in 2015, along with receiving First-Team All-Conference honors in both 2013 and 2015. He also holds the school record for the highest hitting percentage in a single season at .483 and is third on the all-time kills list with 536.

Anema received his bachelor's degree in sports management with a minor in coaching and his master's in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine.
