TCU Wraps Up Big 12’s in Morgantown

The men’s team finishes in second, women’s team in third

Morgantown, W. Va. – The TCU swimming and diving team concluded the final day of the Big 12 Championships on Saturday evening. The men's team finished in second place while the women's team placed third overall. 
 
Six medals were earned throughout the day and five new school records were set. Anna Kwong and Alec Hubbard qualified for the Olympic Trials in their respective diving events. 
 
THE RUNDOWN
Finals began on the boards where Kwong placed second on the 3 meter setting a new school record with a score of 369.75. The junior had already qualified for the Olympic Trials during prelims with her score of 362.90 but extended that by 6.85 points in the final. 
 
In the pool, Tania Quaglieri got things started in the 200 backstroke where she brought home the bronze medal setting a school record along the way with a time of 1:56.04. Mikayla Popham set a new career high in the event touching the wall at 1:57.09.
 
Edgar Cicanci recorded a personal best in the men's division of the 200 backstroke swimming to a time of 1:44.44. Nigel Forbes continued his backstroke success this week with a time of 1:45.07 in the 200. 
 
Giorgia Vavalle swam to a time of 2:13.28 in the 200 breaststroke to get things started in the event. Ella Stein recorded a personal best with a time of 3:13.96. Kito Camossato came through on the men's side in the event earning the bronze medal for the Frogs and setting a new school record with a time of 1:53.83.
 
Next up was the 100 freestyle where Serena Gould earned an NCAA "B cut" with a time of 49.22. Olivia Rhodes had a personal best touching the wall at 49.59. Peter Horton recorded his career best with a time of 43.82. 
 
Five Horned Frogs stepped up in the mile (1650 Free) earning points for TCU and setting new school records. Sydney Inman touched the wall at 16:43.66 to earn a career best and while doing so made her way into the TCU top 10 in the 1000 free (10:05.71). Kara. Church set a new TCU record earning the bronze medal along the way with a time of 16:33.13. Jordan Edwards was the final Frog on the women's team to make her way into the TCU top 10 with a time of 16:40.03. Aaron Wilmes recorded a career best touching the wall at 15:29.51 on the men's side. 
 
Back on the boards, Hubbard scored a career best and new school record of 409.25 while also qualifying for the Olympic Trials. Elliott Dillon and Oliver Cazaly earned zone cuts and set new career highs with scores of 361.05 and 316.90, respectively. 
 
The meet concluded with the 400 freestyle relay where the women's team brought home the silver with a time of 3:16.33. The men's team touched the wall at 2:55.86 making their way into the TCU top 10.
