Angela Stanford Named Assistant Captain for Solheim Cup

Stanford joins Team USA for the first time not as a player.

FORT WORTH – TCU Athletics Hall of Famer Angela Stanford ('00) has been named as an assistant captain for Team USA for the Solheim Cup.

"I am so proud of Angela as this is such an honor and something she has earned over the course of her career," said head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin. "She will bring such a fierce, competitive advantage as well as a wealth of knowledge and team spirit to her players. She continues to represent TCU and the United States team with character and class!"

The Solheim Cup is the women's professional golf equivalent to the Ryder Cup. The biennial event features team match play competition between 12 players from the Ladies European Tour (LET) and 12 United States players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour (LPGA).

The 2023 iteration of the tournament runs from Sept. 18-24 at Finca Cortesin in Andalucía, Spain.

This will be Stanford's first time serving as an assistant captain.

Stanford is no stranger to the international team play stage.

She has represented Team USA as a player in the Solheim Cup six times and also competed in the Curtis Cup and Lexus Cup. Stanford helped lead Team USA capture the Solheim Cup in 2007, 2009 and 2015 and guided the Americans to a Curtis Cup victory in 2000 as an amateur. She has also made two Lexus Cup appearances.

Stanford started her international career in the summer of 2000.

A four-year letterwinner for the Horned Frogs, Stanford is the program's highest-profile alumna. Stanford has bagged seven tournament titles on the LPGA Tour and won her first major championship in 2018.
