Hughes Joins Horned Frogs as Assistant Coach

Hughes will coach the throws for TCU after serving as an assistant at Louisiana

FORT WORTH – Director of Track and Field Khadevis Robinson has announced Terry Hughes as a new assistant coach. He will serve as the throws coach for the Horned Frogs.

"I am excited to add Terry Hughes to my coaching staff," Robinson said. "Terry brings experience both as an athlete and as a coach. Terry was a top-level athlete while at LSU and he has some great success coaching at the University of Louisiana. Terry is excited to come to TCU and start building the throws program. He is familiar with the Texas and Louisiana area and looks to build a strong foundation here at TCU."

At Louisiana, Hughes served as an assistant coach for five seasons where he was responsible for coaching all throwing events and assisted in operations and logistics. During the 2022-23 season, Hughes guided Maria Bienvenu to Second Team All-American honors in the javelin (169' 3") for the second time in her career at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Bienvenu, the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Champion in the javelin, was one of four Ragin Cajuns to place in the top six in the javelin at the outdoor conference championships.

While at Louisiana, Hughes coached four Sun Belt Conference Champions. Additionally, Hughes' throwers have claimed three school records and 25 spots on Louisiana's All-Time Records List. Twenty-six Ragin Cajun student-athletes have garnered All-Sun Belt Conference honors.

Prior to serving as an assistant coach, Hughes was a volunteer track and field coach at LSU where he assisted the throwers with daily field training. He also played a major role in recruiting, operations and logistics and scheduling.

Hughes competed in the indoor weight throw and discus, as well as the hammer and javelin throws while competing as a four-year member (2012-16) of LSU's track and field team. He qualified for the NCAA Championships in his final season as a Tiger in the javelin.

Hughes graduated from LSU in 2016 with a degree in sports administration.
