INDIANAPOLIS – TCU assistant coach
Marissa Chew has earned the prestigious honor of being named to the team staff roster for two USA Track & Field (USATF) international teams.
Chew, who coaches the multis and vertical jumps for the Horned Frogs, will join USATF at two of six possible international competitions this summer as a women's assistant coach for the jumps and multis.
She will first serve as an assistant coach at the 2023 North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) U23 Championships from July 21-23 in San José, Costa Rica. Following the NACAC U23 Championships, Chew and her fellow USATF coaches will coach the nation's best at the 2023 Thorpe Cup on Aug. 12-13 in Marburg, Germany.
No stranger to international competition, Chew currently coaches Lindon Victor, the 2022 Commonwealth Games Decathlon Champion. He also finished fifth at the 2022 World Championships with 8,474 points.
Chew's student-athletes rewrote the TCU record books during the 2022-23 season. In the heptathlon,
Jill Johnson garnered sixth at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships with her school-record 5,203 points. Additionally,
Elise Dobson broke the school record in the pentathlon as she finished eighth at the Big 12 Indoor Championships (3,602 points).
Both
Jade Ferrell and Johnson broke the school record in the outdoor high jump and are tied at the top of TCU's All-Time Records List (1.73m). In the 2022-23 season alone, TCU athletes achieved three school records, 10 new marks on TCU's All-Time Top 10 List and five podium finishes at the 2023 Big 12 ITF and OTF Championships.
