FORT WORTH – Former TCU head coach Bill Montigel was named Big 12 Conference Co-Coach of the Year on Thursday by the Big 12 Conference.
The award, voted on by the 10 head coaches, was Montigel's eighth in his 36-year career. He has now won the award in all five conferences in which he's coached in. Montigel was the Southwest Conference Coach of the Year in 1990, Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1997, Mountain West Coach of the Year in 2009 and Conference USA Coach of the Year four times over the span of 2002-2005.
This past season, TCU won the Grand Canyon Invitational and the Seahawk Intercollegiate. TCU used that momentum to finish as the runner-up at the Big 12 Conference Championship in the spring to follow up on a third place finish at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament in the fall. The Horned Frogs advanced to the NCAA Regional in Auburn, Ala., where they finished in ninth place.
He also coached
Maxence Giboudot,
Gustav Frimodt and
Jacob Skov Olesen to All-Big 12 Conference honors with top 10 finishes at the Big 12 Championships.
Montigel will share the Big 12 Co-Coach of the Year honors with Grant Robbins of Kansas State.
