TCU Awarded No. 2 Overall Seed in NCAA D1 Men's Tennis Championship

Horned Frogs face UT Arlington at 5 p.m. on Friday in the first round

FORT WORTH – TCU has earned a national seed in the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season.

The Horned Frogs were awarded the No. 2 overall seed in the 2023 NCAA D1 Men's Tennis Championship.

The selection marked the program's eighth straight trip to the Big Dance and 33rd NCAA Tournament berth in program history.

TCU will now host NCAA Regional matches on Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6 on the Bartzen Varsity Courts at the Bayard H. Tennis Friedman Center. The Fort Worth Regional is an all-Lone Star State affair. The four-team field includes Texas A&M, SMU and UT Arlington. Texas A&M is the No. 2 seed in the regional, followed by the No. 3 seed Mustangs and fourth-seeded Mavericks.

The Horned Frogs face UTA in the first round at 5 p.m. on Friday following a dual between the Aggies and Mustangs at 2 p.m. The victors from Friday's opening-round slate then face off at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the round of 32 for the chance to punch their ticket to Super Regional weekend.

As one of eight national seeds in the 64-team field, TCU earned the right to host both NCAA Regional and Super Regional rounds.  The Fort Worth Super Regional is scheduled for either Friday, May 12 or Saturday, May 13 opposite the winner of the Starkville Regional, which includes host Mississippi State, Middle Tennessee, Tulane and Alabama State.

TCU owns regular season victories over SMU and UTA. The Horned Frogs shut out SMU 5-0 on Jan. 16 on the indoor courts, then blanked UTA 7-0 on March 3 to commence the outdoor season. Neither team was able to take a set from the Horned Frogs.

TCU and Texas A&M last squared off during the 2021 campaign. The Horned Frogs are 40-17 all-time vs. the Aggies and have claimed seven of the last eight meetings between the programs.

TCU garnered the No. 2 overall seed on the strength of its second consecutive ITA Indoor National Championship and the Big 12 Championship. The Horned Frogs downed No. 1 overall seed Texas in both title triumphs. TCU concluded the regular season with a 22-2 overall record. The 22 regular season victories are the most the program has produced in a single season since 1989.

The Horned Frogs' streak of eight consecutive postseason appearances is the second-longest in program history, trailing only the program's run of 16 straight NCAA Tournament selections from 1991-2006.

The Big 12 placed all six teams in the tournament. Texas Tech and Oklahoma received No. 2 seeds in their respective regionals. Baylor and Oklahoma State rounded out the half-dozen conference selections with No. 3 seed selections.

All three regional matches will be streamed via PlaySight as a part of a Cracked Racquets Cross Court Cast.
