Pinnington Finishes as ITA National Fall Championships Singles Finalist

Sophomore became the first player in 41 years to reach a national final

SAN DIEGO – Even in defeat, Jack Pinnington entered a class of his own in TCU men's tennis lore.

Pinnington became just the second ITA National Fall Championships finalist in the program's 49-year history. He is the first player to reach a national singles final since David Pate won the men's national fall championship in 1982.

The sophomore ultimately fell to Texas' 17th-ranked Micah Braswell, 6-4, 6-4, in Sunday's final.

Pinnington's performance cemented him among the sport's rising amateur starts. The London native concluded the fall season with a 12-3 singles record. Seven of his wins were against ranked opponents. All but two of his victrices were sweeps.

Pinnington, who entered the tournament in possession of the No. 26 ITA singles ranking, defeated No. 10 Alexander Bernard (Ohio State), No. 23 Colton Smith (Arizona), No. 61 Pablo Masjuan (UC Santa Barbara) and No. 81 Jack Anthrop (Ohio State) in his run to the grand finale of fall tennis.

Collectively, TCU produced a 11-4 mark at the ITA National Fall Championships. TCU advanced a nation-leading five athletes to the quarterfinals. The Horned Frogs were also the only team to qualify a singles player and doubles team for the semifinals. No. 13 Sebastian Gorzny and Pedro Vives reached the final four in doubles.

TCU has now produced a national fall runner-up in consecutive seasons. Lui Maxted, who reached the doubles quarterfinals alongside Duncan Chan, finished as TCU's first-ever National Fall Championships doubles finalist in 2022 in tandem with Sander Jong.

The Horned Frogs now break for two months for a series of unattached competitions and the winter holidays before opening the team portion of their 2023-24 schedule on Jan. 14 vs. Abilene Christian.
