FORT WORTH -- Seven home games and nine out of 12 contests in the state of Texas highlight the 2023 TCU football schedule announced Tuesday.
 
The Horned Frogs will be at home for four of their first five games, beginning with the Sept. 2 opener against Colorado.
 
The 2023 slate features new Big 12 opponents Houston and BYU. The Sept. 16 conference opener against the Cougars in Houston eliminates an early open date in past TCU schedules. The Horned Frogs' open date will now be on Oct. 28, following the eighth game.
 
TCU and Houston will be meeting for the first time since the 2007 Texas Bowl, when Andy Dalton led the Horned Frogs to a 20-13 victory over Case Keenum and the Cougars. TCU and UH last met in the regular season in 2004, when both were members of Conference USA.
 
TCU will host BYU on Oct. 14, reuniting it with another former conference mate. The Horned Frogs and Cougars were together in the Mountain West from 2005-11.
 
Other TCU home games include Nicholls (Sept. 9), SMU (Sept. 23), West Virginia (Sept. 30), Texas (Nov. 11) and Baylor (Nov. 18).
 
TCU's two November road games will both be non-Saturday contests. The Horned Frogs are at Texas Tech on Thursday, Nov. 2, and at Oklahoma in the regular-season finale on Friday, Nov. 24. The Horned Frogs will also travel to Iowa State (Oct. 7) and Kansas State (Oct. 21). The trip to Ames, in week six, will mark TCU's first game of the season out of state.
 
TCU returns 11 starters, including seven on defense, from its 2022 team that went 13-2 and reached the College Football Playoff National Championship, finishing No. 2 in the final Associated Press poll.
