OMAHA, Neb. -- TCU's
Derius Davis has been named the recipient of the 2022 Jet Award, presented to the nation's top return specialist.
The Jet Award is named after 1972 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny "The Jet" Rodgers. Davis will receive the award at an April 13 ceremony in Omaha, Neb.
Davis was named to multiple All-America teams as a punt returner and was the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year. He was one of just five players nationally with two punt returns for touchdowns and ranked fourth in the FBS with his average of 14.9 yards per attempt. Davis provided TCU's first score of the season with a 60-yard return against Colorado and also had an 82-yard touchdown versus Texas Tech.
Davis, who will play in the Feb. 4 Reese's Senior Bowl, ranks first all-time at TCU with five punt returns for touchdowns. His six career special teams scores tie KaVontae Turpin for the most in TCU history.
Davis is the third TCU player to win a national award this season, joining quarterback
Max Duggan (Davey O'Brien Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award) and cornerback
Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson (Jim Thorpe Award). Additionally, Head Coach Sonny Dykes has won 10 National Coach of the Year awards.
